for the city’s conservation efforts at Sunfish Lake Park

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
EMBRACE OPEN SPACE was to have presented the City with an award to the City at a planned “Prairie Restoration Celebration” event on June 8 in recognition of its efforts in placing Sunfish
Lake Park in conservation easement with the Minnesota Land Trust, and for its restoration and conservation efforts in general. Since the event was “rained out”, the event will be
rescheduled for late summer or early fall. Given this, there might now be the possibility to coordinate the recognition with a large scale community native seedling planting event.
EMBRACE OPEN SPACE is a collaborative among Twin Cities organizations concerned about protecting open space in our region. Their primary goal is to serve as a catalyst for greater citizen
and elected leadership to conserve and steward natural areas and parks, lakes and rivers in the 11 county Twin Cities Metropolitan area.
ACTION REQUESTED:
The Park Commission is being asked to discuss opportunities for a future community planting event and other activities that could be conducted coordinated with the EMRACE OPEN SPACE
recognition in late summer or early fall.
