ITEM: “EMBRACE” Champion Award for the city’s conservation efforts at Sunfish Lake Park and recognition event

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Carol Kriegler has been in conversation with staff at EMBRACE since last fall as the organization is interested in presenting an award to the City in recognition of its efforts in placing
Sunfish Lake Park in conservation easement with the Minnesota Land Trust, and for its restoration and conservation efforts in general. EMBRACE OPEN SPACE is a collaborative among Twin
Cities organizations concerned about protecting open space in our region. Their primary goal is to serve as a catalyst for greater citizen and elected leadership to conserve and steward
natural areas and parks, lakes and rivers in the 11 county Twin Cities Metropolitan area.
EMBRACE has suggested that the award be presented at an event at the park. 5:00 Tuesday, June 8 is a proposed date for the event.
ACTION REQUESTED:
The Park Commission is being asked to provide suggestions for activities that could be conducted during the course of the event such as some native garden planting and unveiling of interpretive
“restoration project’ signage.
