ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL
Review month end activity update from fire department.
PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS:
Year-to-date incidents 157 (2020 YTD: 166):
We had 45 calls in April.
32 Medicals
4 Motor Vehicle Accidents
3 Grass Fires
2 Smoke in a Structure
2 Public Assist
1 Dispatched and Cancelled En Route
1 Fire Alarms
45 Total
Our average response time was 9.1 minutes from alarm to arrival. 21 calls had 3 or less
responders minus the Duty Officer with 3 calls having only 1 personnel on the first due
apparatus.
Drills for the Month:
#1 – Boulder Ponds Assisted Living – Building Familiarization and Preplanning
#2 – Fields at Arbor Glen – Building Familiarization and Preplanning
#3 – Tender 1 in-service training
Points of Interest:
- Fire Inspector / Lieutenant Anthony Svoboda started. Working on development of our
commercial fire inspection and preplanning program.
- 2 new paid-on-call personnel continue with their Firefighter I/II classes. Scheduled to
complete initial training in May.
- Continued staffing challenges with several personnel balancing the PT or POC hours and
their personal and professional responsibilities.
- In-service training completed on Tender 1.
- COVID continues to be a significant risk to our small department and we continue to
follow CDC and MDH protocols for awareness and prevention. Both fire stations
continue to be closed to the public for the safety of the public and our personnel. Signs
have been posted at both stations.
Part Time Staff Accomplishments:
- Cleaning and general maintenance at both stations.
- Vehicle and equipment inspections.
- Assisted with Burn Permit applications.
- Vehicle repairs as possible.
- Increased decontamination of apparatus and stations.
- Training of new personnel.
