AGENDA ITEM: Appointment of Paid On Call Assistant Fire Chief

BACKGROUND: The Paid On Call Assistant Fire Chief position has been vacant since April 8th. Staff advertised the Assistant Fire Chief vacancy from May 7th-14th and received two internal applicants. The Fire Chief conducted interviews of qualified applicants.
ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: Should the Council promote Nick Witter to Assistant Fire Chief?
PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS: Staff is recommending the Council promote Nick Witter to Assistant Fire Chief.
Witter has served the Lake Elmo Fire Department as a firefighter since 2009, attaining the rank of Captain in 2014, and as the Administrative Assistant since 2016.
FISCAL IMPACT: Paid-on-call hourly rate does not change. Increased officer stipend of $836.20 annually. **Asst.
Chief annual 2513.22 vs Cptn: $1677.02 **
OPTIONS: 1) Appoint Nick Witter as Assistant Fire Chief 2) Do not promote. RECOMMENDATION:
If removed from the Consent Agenda “Motion to Appoint Nick Witter as Assistant Fire Chief.” ATTACHMENTS: None
