AGENDA ITEM: Installation of Ethernet Cable at Public Works

BACKGROUND: The Public Works facility located on Ideal Avenue currently uses a standard router and service through Comcast for internet. Staff is recommending upgrading the service with an Ethernet line run to the
building to provide faster and more reliable internet service. ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: Should the city install Ethernet cable to the Public Works facility? PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS: The current internet service at Public Works is insufficient to allow staff to utilize large web based programs and is unreliable due to the size of router and type of service available services the facility. Temporary work arounds are currently being used to run some programs but without higher capacity internet we are unable to implement a permanent solution. FISCAL IMPACT:
• Installation cost of $11,000 to be offset by ARPA Funds.
• Increased monthly cost of approximately $250 OPTIONS:
• Approve the Ethernet installation
• Deny the Ethernet installation
• Table for future discussion RECOMMENDATION: “Motion to approve the installation of Ethernet cable at Public Works.” ATTACHMENTS:
