AGENDA ITEM: Approve Hiring of Planning Director

BACKGROUND:
At the July 20th City Council meeting, Council authorized staff to advertise for the Planning
Director position. Staff conducted five interviews and selected Molly Just.
ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL:
Should the Council hire Molly Just as Planning Director?
PROPOSAL:
Staff is recommending that the Council hire Molly Just as Planning Director contingent upon background
and drug screening. Just brings over 20 years of experience in planning in the private sector and at the city,
state, and county level. Staff is further recommending that Just begin at Step 6 of the pay scale, equal
to $98,217.60 annually. Her start date will be September 10th.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Planning Director wages and benefits are included in the 2021 budget.

1.Hire Molly Just at the terms described
2.Hire Molly Just under different terms
3.Hire another candidate
4.Hire no one
RECOMMENDATION:
If removed from the consent agenda:
“Move to approve the hiring of Molly Just for Planning Director at the terms described.”
