HomeMy WebLinkAbout#03 - August 2021 Public Works ReportMAYOR AND COUNCIL COMMUNICATION DATE 9/21/2021 CONSENT AGENDA ITEM: Public Works Director Report SUBMITTED BY: Marty Powers, Public Works Director REVIEWED BY: Kristina Handt, City Administrator ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: City Council is asked to review and accept, as part of Consent Agenda, a brief description of activities that have taken place in the Public Works Department in the month of August 2021. PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS: STREETS • Continue pot hole repair • Continue gathering road counts and submit to the county • The Heritage Farms, Old Village, Hamlet on Sunfish and 38th/39th street/utility projects continue • The city radar trailer has been moved around the city this month to include 42rd , 39th and Lake Jane • Cleaned up many downed trees on streets after several weather events • Demo a pothole patching trailer and several skid steers • Begin Fall ditch mowing WATER • Complete monthly MDH bacteria, fluoride, Lead/copper sampling and submit well water draw down reports • Water usage is averaging 2 million per day. Wells are averaging 12 hrs per day. The implementation of the new irrigation hours has kept water demand down during peak hours and the city’s water system in check • Staff continue irrigation violation enforcement one day a week. Staff are finding around a dozen violators each time we go out to enforce in the early mornings SEWER • Sucked out solids and excess grease out of 3 lift stations • Lake Elmo Ave Air Release device failed and is being operated manually each week until the back ordered device shows up SURFACE WATER • Continue 2021 MS4 inspections • Cleaned several culverts and improve several drainages • Repair three failing catch basins and fill sink holes in streets PARKS • Mowing was reduced to every other week due to the dry weather • Provided extra garbage cans and barricades for the National Night out event City Council Meeting Date Consent/Regular Agenda Item #__ Page 2 • Huff and Puff softball tournaments occurred in VFW and Lions Parks • Mowed trail edges • New intersection maps for the Sunfish Lake Park Trails have been installed.
