ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL
Review month end activity update from fire department.
PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS:
We had 47 calls in August.
33 Medical Incidents
4 Motor Vehicle Accident w/ Injuries
3 Dispatched and Cancelled En Route
2 Smoke Alarm Activation – No Fire
1 Power Line Down
1 Lightning Strike / Electrocution
1 Fire Alarm
1 Natural Gas Leak
1 Mutual Aid to Hudson FD
47 Total
Incidents through August 2021: 348 (2020 YTD: 377)
Our average response time was 8.7 minutes from alarm to arrival. 20 calls had 3 or less
responders minus the Duty Officer with 8 calls having only 1 personnel on the first due
apparatus.
Drills and Activities for the Month:
#1 – Officers Meeting
#2 – Supported National Night Out at Station #1 and visited several neighborhood block parties.
#3 – Joint Tender Operations Drill (day & night sessions) with Oakdale Fire Department.
#4 – Quarterly EMS refresher training with Regions EMS Education.

2 Development / Project Review
Points of Interest:
- Several promotions occurred this month including:
o Lt. Jeremy Penman to Captain 1
o FF Mike Schwarz to Captain 2
o FF Doug Lovett to Lieutenant 2
o FF Katie Hawke to Lieutenant 3
- Peter Haveman and Dale Klitzke joined this month as our newest members of the
department as Paid On Call firefighters. Dale started FF1 classes with Century College
and Peter comes to us as a certified FF so he will only need his EMS training completed
now.
- Several staff are currently enrolled in Fire Apparatus Operator training that began this
month.
Part Time Staff Accomplishments:
- Cleaning and general maintenance at both stations.
- Vehicle and equipment inspections.
- Assisted with Burn Permit applications.
- Vehicle repairs as possible.
- Equipment repairs.
- Increased decontamination of apparatus and stations.
- Training of new personnel.
- Hydrant mapping and valve oiling.
