BACKGROUND: The City of Lake Elmo Public Works Department utilizes a 2013 skid loader daily
for numerous tasks in areas including streets, parks, water, sewer and storm water. This piece of
equipment is in need of replacement due to age, maintenance and safety concerns. This unit would meet
the council approved replacement schedule at year ten (2023), but is quickly depreciating due to how
often it gets used year around and how much it is used on black top. Over $8500 in maintenance is
needed on the unit and snow blower should it be kept. The existing skid steer does not have a safety back
up camera and the blower has already been rebuilt several times.
ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: Should the City Council approve the purchase of a new Skid Steer with pallet forks and snow blower as outlined in the 2022 Capital Improvement Plan? PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS: Proceeding with this purchase will benefit the city and its citizens by replacing an aged/wore out piece of equipment with a new unit that will have a safety backup camera, a new snow blower to clear sidewalks & rinks and new set of walk through pallet forks that will be used on several pieces of equipment. Four new units were demonstrated and quoted. This Bobcat unit was the most cost effective and connected
to existing public works attachments without adaptors. This purchase will aid Pubic Works in its many tasks in all areas of the city.
FISCAL IMPACT: Purchase of this piece of equipment shall not exceed $70,000 and will be funded through the vehicle replacement fund.
OPTIONS: Approve purchase of Skid Loader and attachments Deny purchase of Skid Loader and attachments Amend and approve purchase of Skid Loader and attachments RECOMMENDATION: If removed from consent agenda….. “Motion to approve the purchase of a Skid Loader and attachments for an amount not to exceed $70,000”
