AGENDA ITEM: Approve Hire of Full Time Firefighter
BACKGROUND: The 2022 budget included the addition of two full time firefighters. The positions were filled this spring but one became vacant in September. Staff advertised the position for just under 4 weeks, and received 20 applications. Staff, along with an Assistant Fire Chief from an outside department, conducted interviews and made a conditional offer to Joe Hathaway. Hathaway currently serves on the fire department as a part time firefighter. ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: Should the Council approve conditional job offer to Joe Hathaway for the Full Time Firefighter Position?
PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS: Staff is recommending the Council approve the offer to Joe Hathaway.
If approved, Hathaway would begin his full time role on December 7th with an increase in hourly pay to $24.72. FISCAL IMPACT: Firefighter wages and benefits are included in the 2022 budget.
OPTIONS: 1) Approve job offer to Joe Hathaway 2) Do not approve the job offer 3) Readvertise the position RECOMMENDATION: If removed from consent agenda: “Motion to approve hiring Joe Hathaway as a full time firefighter.” ATTACHMENTS: None
