AGENDA ITEM: Approve Hiring of Finance Director SUBMITTED BY: Kristina Handt, City Administrator
BACKGROUND: Council authorized staff to advertise for Finance Director in August. In November department heads, Mayor Cadenhead and Council member McGinn interviewed Wayne Oberg and are recommending his hire.
ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: Should the Council hire Wayne Oberg as Finance Director? PROPOSAL: It is recommended that Council hire Wayne Oberg as Finance Director contingent upon background and drug screening. Oberg has over 35 years’ experience in municipal finance departments. Staff is further recommending that Oberg begin at Step 6 of the pay scale, equal to $121,259 annually and begin accruing PTO at 6.5 hours biweekly. His start date will be January 3, 2023. FISCAL IMPACT: Finance Director wages and benefits are included in the 2023 budget.

2. Hire Wayne Oberg under different terms 3. Hire another candidate 4. Hire no one
RECOMMENDATION: If removed from the consent agenda:
“Move to approve the hiring of Wayne Oberg for Finance Director at the terms described.”
