AGENDA ITEM: Appointment to Parks Commission
BACKGROUND:
The Parks Commission is established to review and make recommendations to the Council on the future
development of city parks, including the establishment of and improvements to the parks, and to make
recommendations to the Council on policies governing the maintenance and public use of the parks within
the city. The Parks Commission shall consist of 7 members. The voting members shall be appointed by
the City Council for a 3-year term.
There is currently one vacancy on the Parks Commission for a term ending 12/31/25.
ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL:
Who should the Council appoint to the Parks Commission?
PROPOSAL:
The city received an application for Parks Commission from Mike Elam and interviewed him in a special
meeting prior to the May 16th meeting.
OPTIONS:
1) Appoint Mike Elam to the Parks Commission for a term ending 12/31/25
2) Continue to advertise for applicants
RECOMMENDATION:
“Move to appoint Mike Elam to the Parks Commission for a term ending 12/31/25”
