HomeMy WebLinkAbout#09 - 2024 Polling LocationsSTAFF REPORT DATE: December 5, 2023 CONSENT AGENDA ITEM: Adopt Resolution Declaring Polling Locations for 2024 SUBMITTED BY: Julie Johnson, City Clerk BACKGROUND: Pursuant to a change made by the legislature in 2017, Minnesota Statutes 204B.16, sub.1, requires cities to adopt an Ordinance or Resolution by December 31st of each year declaring the polling locations for the following year. The Office of the Secretary of State believes this change was made to lessen voter confusion, particularly in cities that relocate polling places from year to year. Fire Station 1 has been serving as a polling place for Precinct 1 for many years but will likely be for sale or sold in 2024. Staff is recommending moving Precinct 1 to the City Center and maintaining Precinct 2 at the old City Hall building. ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: Should the Council adopt the Resolution?
