HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-25-2020November 25, 2020 Public Meetings Next Week City Council Meeting Tuesday, December 1st 7:00PM City Agendas and Minutes *Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic and the Stateof Emergency the City will be conducting the CityCouncil meeting and public hearings telephonicallyor by other means. The City Council Chamberswill not be open to the public. The City will bebroadcasting the meeting via our normal link onthe City website. Visit our website ​ City Offices Closed to the Public City Offices will be closed to the public starting November 16th in order to reduce the risk of the Coronavirus. Register For Virtual Council Meeting City Offices Closed For Thanksgiving City Offices will be closed November 26 and 27 in observance of Thanksgiving. Staff will resume work November 30, but offices will remain closed to the public. Winter Parking Ordinance Now In Effect The Winter parking ordinance prohibits parking on Lake Elmo Streets from November 1 through March 31 between 2:00AM and 7:00AM. Public Works cannot clear roadways with cars blocking the path. Water Updates The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency announced that several metro water bodies have new protective water and fish consumption values for PFOS. The target waters include Lake Elmo, Raleigh Creek, Eagle Point Lake, Horseshoe Lake and Tartan Pond. Because of the Values of PFOS found in fish in these waters, the Minnesota Department of Health is extending "do not eat" fish consumption advice to these bodies of water. More information can be found here. The Co-Trustees (MN DNR and MPCA) have released their recommendations for the Conceptual Drinking Water Supply Plan (CDWSP) for the east metro including Lake Elmo. This work began more than two years ago after the State of Minnesota and 3M $850 million settlement regarding PFAS. Of the three options in the report, the Co-Trustees prefer Option 1. Below is a summary of Option 1 for Lake Elmo. This option does not provide for any new municipal wells in Lake Elmo but has a placeholder for a connection to Woodbury so Lake Elmo can purchase water from them to meet future needs. In addition, Option 1 does not include bringing water or a treatment system to all of the Lake Elmo neighborhoods located in a Special Well Construction Area. If the private wells in these areas fail, property owners are faced with installing deeper, more expensive wells due to being located in proximity to contaminated groundwater. The MPCA is accepting public comments on the proposed options until December 10 here Water Conservation Rebate Program The City of Lake Elmo, in partnership with the Metropolitan Council, is offering a rebate program for purchases of eligible WaterSense toilets and Smart Irrigation Controllers. Qualifying purchases are eligible for up to a $200 credit on your water bill. Program Details Available Here Washington County Library branches are currently open for Express Service. Visit the library during reduced hours to browse materials, pick up holds, and use a computer for up to one hour. Curbside service is also available for community members who cannot enter our buildings. To limit personal contact and follow social distancing guidelines, meeting rooms are currently closed and seating within the library has been removed. Our take-home kits include all the supplies you need to craft a mini- village of four gingerbread houses, plus plates for display and some extra goodies to decorate your creations or munch on while you work. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Lake Elmo Library. Registration is required. Kits will be available to pick up at Lake Elmo Library beginning Tuesday, December 8. Devices can be checked out for one month at a time, and can be renewed three times if there are no other holds. You only need a library card registered in Washington County to borrow a device. More information is available at WashCoLib.org/devices. It is illegal to put yard, garden, and tree waste into the garbage. Bring yard waste to a designated drop-off site, have it picked up by your trash hauler during seasonal yard waste collection, or compost yard waste at home. Washington County Yard Waste Consider "adopting" a storm drain this fall. Volunteer fifteen minutes, twice a month, for cleaner waterways and healthier communities. Storm drains flow directly to local lakes, rivers, and wetlands, acting as a conduit for trash and organic pollutants. Adopt a Drain asks residents to adopt a storm drain in their neighborhood and keep it clear of leaves, trash, and other debris to reduce water pollution.
