All City Services are available at City Hall, 3800 Laverne Please drive slowly and watch for construction activity April 5 City Council Meeting Agenda Meeting Materials Can Be Accessed Here At their April 5th meeting, the City Council will be considering a moratorium on all (residential and commercial) new platted development in the Water System Low Pressure Zone. During the moratorium the city would study water usage and needs. All persons wishing to be heard on the above item should attend the meeting or submit their comments before the meeting to city staff. Written comments may be emailed to Molly Just at mjust@lakeelmo.org no later than noon on the day of the meeting. Public Notice On Tuesday, April 5th the Lake Elmo City Council will consider Ordinance No. 2022-01 which amends Chapter 3.12 related to the purpose and direction of the Fire Department, and Chapter 5.12 related to open burning. Public Notice On Tuesday, April 5th the Lake Elmo City Council will consider Ordinance No. 2022-02, an ordinance that amends the City Code language in the Zoning Ordinance. This ordinance alters language in the City Code about residential density in the Medium Density Residential (MDR) District and the High Density Residential (HDR) District. The following is a summary of the adopted ordinance language: Ordinance 2022-03 includes the following elements: 1. Revisions to City Code Section 105.12.700 Purpose and District Descriptions that increases the allowed residential density in the MDR District to comply with the Comprehensive Plan. 2. Revisions to City Code Section 105.12.720 Table 10-2 that reduces the lot size requirement for single-family attached units in the MDR and HDR Districts to comply with the Comprehensive Plan. 3. A revision to City Code Section 105.12.720 Table 10-2 to reduce the land area required per multiple family dwelling in the MDR District to comply with the Comprehensive Plan. Sydney Peterson medals in Paralympic Games The City of Lake Elmo is hiring Public Works Seasonals. We are accepting applications for seasonal workers to assist the Public Works department with general maintenance of City streets, parks, and properties. This is a great opportunity for graduating seniors as well as students home from college. Information and applications are available here. Business Retention and Expansion Program The Lake Elmo Economic Development Authority (LEEDA) will be kicking off a Business Retention and Expansion Program in March. LEEDA members will be reaching out to schedule visits with members of our business community to learn more about their business, what’s going well, what could be done differently and how LEEDA can help them continue to grow and prosper in Lake Elmo. With around 300 businesses in Lake Elmo and only 6 LEEDA commissioners, this campaign will take many months and likely continue into 2023. Commissioners will be focusing on businesses in the Old Village area first and then moving towards the I-94 corridor later this year. Each year, the Lake Elmo Fire Department in collaboration with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, National Weather Service supports Severe Weather Awareness Week in Minnesota. The week is designed to refresh, remind and educate everyone about the seasonal threats from severe weather and how to avoid them. It's also a great time to make and practice your emergency plan and build or refresh your emergency preparedness kit. Keep an eye on our Lake Elmo Fire Department Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/lakeelmofd for these daily topics: Monday - Alerts and Warnings Tuesday - Severe Weather, Lightning and Hail Wednesday - Floods Thursday - Tornadoes Friday - Extreme Heat Statewide Tornado Drills – Thursday, April 7 - 1:45pm & 6:45pm The most important events during Severe Weather Awareness Week are the two annual statewide tornado drills. Outdoor warning sirens will sound in a simulated tornado warning. These drills are an excellent opportunity for residents to prepare their homes, families, neighborhoods and communities! Afternoon Tornado Drill - 1:45 p.m. Schools, businesses and other facilities are encouraged to conduct a tornado drill at this time to practice their tornado sheltering plans. Evening Tornado Drill- 6:45 p.m. The reason for a 6:45 p.m. drill is that severe weather including tornadoes occurs most often between 3 and 8 p.m. The statewide 1:45 p.m. drill gives institutions, first-shift and day workers a time to practice, but it does not allow second-shift workers the same opportunity. The 6:45 p.m. tornado drill also allows families to practice their sheltering plans. Outdoor Warning Siren Network The City of Lake Elmo owns and maintains 9 outdoor warning sirens throughout the city. Our siren network is tested and activated through the Washington County 911 Commination Center. Outdoor warning sirens are meant to be heard outside. When sirens sound, residents should always seek shelter and tune to local weather information on radio, television, or NOAA weather radio for more information. When the sirens are sounded, they will run for three minutes and then stop. The threat of severe weather does not stop when the sirens stop. Residents should continue to shelter and stay tuned to local weather information on radio, television or NOAA Weather Radios for the duration of the warning period. There is no such thing as an all-clear siren. Outdoor warning siren activation is based on the following criteria: · Washington County Sheriff’s Office 911 Communication Center tests/activates all sirens in the Washington County at 1:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month, from March through October. · When a Tornado Warning is issued for Washington County by the National Weather Service. o Sirens are activated for each Tornado Warning issued by the National Weather Service. It is possible for a new Warning to be issued before a previous Warning expires. · When the National Weather Service indicates sustained wind speeds of 70 miles per hour or more. · When a City or County Public Safety Official (Police, Fire) requests activation due to imminent danger to life and/or property. In this situation, Washington County also notifies the National Weather Service Office in Chanhassen. Water Rebate Programs In Lake Elmo It is not too early to think about how you irrigate this summer. The City of Lake Elmo offers rebates for smart irrigation controllers up to $200, and rebates for efficient toilets up to $100. Find out more here. At the January 4, 2022 City Council Meeting the City Council awarded bids for painting at the new City Center A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for April 30. More details to come.
