HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-02-10February 10, 2023 Public Meetings Next Week: Planning Commission Monday, February 13th, 7:00 p.m.City Council Workshop Wednesday,February 15th, 6:30 p.m. Visit our website Join us on Nextdoor February 7, 2023 City Council Meeting Summary DNR, MPCA forming work groups to plan 3M PFAS settlement grant process Applications sought for Resident Work Group The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Minnesota Pollution Control Agency are seeking applicants for a new Resident Work Group to help plan a grant process as part of the 3M Per- and Polyfluoronated Alkyl Substances (PFAS) settlement. About $20 million in grant funds will be available for projects designed to restore or enhance aquatic resources, wildlife, habitat, fishing, resource improvement and outdoor recreational opportunities. These grants are Priority 2 of the 3M PFAS Natural Resource Damage Assessment settlement. Priority 1 is dedicated to drinking water projects in the Twin Cities east metropolitan area. Priority 2 funding will focus on natural resource and outdoor recreation projects in the east metropolitan area and downstream areas of the Mississippi and St. Croix rivers that have been affected by PFAS released by 3M. Priority 2 projects will be solicited and selected through a public Request for Proposals process. The DNR and MPCA will engage communities, stakeholders and technical experts to gather feedback regarding Priority 2 goals and planning processes. The Resident Work Group will complement separate community and technical groups, with all three groups providing feedback on the goals for Priority 2, the evaluation criteria that will be used to guide project selection, and Request for Proposals solicitation scope and language. Applicants must: Reside in Washington, Ramsey or Dakota counties. Attend meetings during business hours every other month for six months, with the possibility for additional meetings thereafter. Have experience or interest in engaging with government programs or projects. Interested residents should complete and submit the application on the 3M PFAS Settlement web portal (3msettlement.state.mn.us). Applications will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21. The DNR and the MPCA will review applications and select work group members. In addition to seeking the participation of individuals with relevant knowledge and experience, the DNR and the MPCA are seeking individuals with diverse backgrounds. To that end, the DNR and the MPCA will consider information related to the following aspects of an applicant’s background when selecting Resident Work Group members: race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, socioeconomic status, education, marital status, language, age, gender, sexual orientation, mental or physical ability, life experience, ideas, knowledge and learning styles. There are over 900 fire hydrants in the City of Lake Elmo! To help protect the community, residents are being asked to help keep fire hydrants clear and accessible. Having timely and efficient access to a water supply is critically important for fighting fires. The longer it takes to access the supply, the quicker a fire can spread and the more dangerous it will be for responders. Obstructions cause unnecessary delays when firefighters are forced to take time to locate hidden hydrants, slowing their response. Many hydrants are hidden by weeds, shrubbery, flowerbeds, posts, fences, snow and other obstructions. Residents are urged to check to see if they have a hydrant in their front yard or somewhere on their property and to “adopt” it, keeping it clear. A path from the street and an area three feet around the hydrant will allow quick access for firefighters and for public works staff completing maintenance. Please help protect the city, its people and their homes. Utility Billing - Stormwater Fee City utility bills include charges for water usage, sanitary sewer, storm water management and state water testing. These city services are not supported by property taxes. The amount paid through your utility bill covers the cost of providing these services, improvements to the systems, and general system repairs and maintenance. The revenue received from your stormwater utility fee is used for preparation of a Surface Water Management Plan, maintenance of existing ditches, culverts, ponds and storm sewers, capital improvements in developed areas, equipment, planning, inventories and water quality improvements including weed control. Get involved! The City of Lake Elmo is seeking interested residents to serve on the Planning Commission. The Planning Commission meets 1-2 times per month to review and hold public hearings for development applications, variances and other planning related items. No experience is necessary! Get out and enjoy the groomed trails! Public Works groom multiuse trails within the Sunfish Lake, Reid, Pebble and Demontreville Wildlife Parks after each snow event. Sunfish Lake Park is the largest Park in the city and offers 248 acres of nature and fresh white snow. Walk/run/bike/ski or snowshoe the 5.5 miles of groomed trails with the park. Winter Parking Please remember that the City of Lake Elmo has a winter parking ordinance that prohibits parking on city streets from November 1st through March 31st between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. This gives crews a window of time for clearing streets curb to curb more efficiently.
