The goal of the water efficiency grant program is to improve municipal water use. This funding has enabled Lake Elmo to provide a rebate to current water customers who replace existing devices with specified water efficient products. Qualifying purchases are eligible for a rebate on your water bill. More information is available on the City's website via the link below. Rebate City Hall Temporary Access Beginning Monday, June 12th, the City Hall parking lot will be closed for paving. If you are coming to City Hall, please park on Laverne Avenue and use the temporary sidewalk to access the building. Park Calendars Compost Bin and Rain Barrel SaleCompost Bin and Rain Barrel Sale Washington County is excited to partner with the Recycling Association of Minnesota to sell discounted compost bins and rain barrels to Washington County residents. Home Composter compost bins are $56 and Rain Catcher rain barrels are $70. Pre-ordered items must be picked-up at the Environmental Center within 90 days of purchase. Order online Reduce-Reuse-Recycle! It is that time of year again when we start thinking about spring cleaning. Are you sure about what is trash and what can be recycled, and where to take it? Washington County has a new interactive disposal directory located here: Disposal Directory Try it out! It is a great tool for identifying what and where you can donate, recycle, or dispose of unwanted items. Reminder: No grass clippings in the street! Did you know that grass clippings contain high amounts of nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus? When it rains, clippings left in the street get washed into storm sewers that lead to ponds, lakes, rivers and streams. There, the nutrients promote algae growth which makes the water stinky, green, and sometimes toxic. Clippings can also clog storm drains, increasing the risk of street flooding. Here’s a simple trick to solve the problem. Turn your mower so the clippings blow into the lawn instead of the street when you’re mowing close to the road! The clippings will break- down naturally and provide free fertilizer for your lawn, saving you time and money. You can also bag and compost your clippings to fertilize your gardens in the future. Cleaner streets = cleaner water. Do your part to keep the green on our lawns and out of our water! MPCA Utilizing New Technology to Clean Water in Lake Elmo Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has placed equipment at Tablyn Park that utilizes a new technology to remove contamination from groundwater. The fire department apparatus bays were striped this week and are just about ready for the trucks to move in!
