Recreational fires are restricted by size and material. A recreational fire cannot exceed three feet in diameter nor shall it exceed three feet in height (height of material stacked to burn). Only clean, dry, wood can be burned. Wood means dry, clean fuels, twigs, branches, limbs, manufactured fireplace logs, charcoal, or cord wood. "Wood" does not include wood or wood based products that is green with leaves or needles, rotten, wet, oil soaked, treated or manufactured with paint, glue, preservatives or other chemicals. Burning of leaves, grass and other yard waste is not allowed. Be A Good Neighbor Be a good neighbor when Don’t Wait or Hesitate! If your recreational fire gets out of control, don’t wait or hesitate. Brush Disposal Burning is not intended for the purposes of clearing brush piles, disposing of green leaved branches from tree trimming, or burning of leaves. For more information regarding brush disposal, please visit: Yard Waste 2023 Seal Coat Project Underway The City of Lake Elmo performed seal coating a number of city streets this week. The map below shows the affected streets highlighted in pink. The small trap rock chips will be swept up twice after the application and again at the end of October and next spring. The seal coat application adds approximately 7 years of life to the bituminous by keeping the moisture from entering the pores and leaching into the sub grade. Reminder: please travel safely around construction workers and trucks. -Lake Elmo Public Works Drop Box Available The new City Center building has a convenient drop box located on the front of the building. Utility payments, permit applications and other documents may be dropped in the box during or after office hours. Water Rebate Program The City of Lake Elmo, in partnership with the Metropolitan Council, is offering a rebate program for purchases of eligible water efficient products. The goal of the water efficiency grant program is to improve municipal water use. This funding has enabled Lake Elmo to provide a rebate to current water customers who replace existing devices with specified water efficient products. Qualifying purchases are eligible for a rebate on your water bill. More information is available on the City's website via the link below. Rebate ADOPT A STORM DRAIN PROGRAM Storm drains serve as direct pathways to our lakes rivers, and streams, and natural materials (grass clippings, leaves, and dirt) can act as pollutants once they go down the drain. If you live in an area with storm drains, you can join a statewide effort to help keep our storm drains clean through the Adopt a Drain program. More information is available here: Adopt A Drain Washington County Public Health & Environment is asking residents to participate in a short survey to inform local planning for groundwater and solid waste programs that help manage garbage, recycling, food waste, yard waste, and hazardous waste from residents. Your input will help us develop programs and services that make Washington County a great place to live, work, and play. Take the survey The Lake Elmo (EDA) Economic Development Authority’s August 15 th board meeting provided an opportunity for Washington County to present an update on their recent labor study completed with RealTime Talent. The presentation provided an overview of Washington County’s labor market, industry analysis and priorities. The city's park use policy can also be found on the reservation page. Park Calendars The City of Lake Elmo has begun participation in the State of Minnesota's Performance Measurement Program. This program began in 2010 for cities and counties to report on at least 10 performance measures annually as a way to aid residents, taxpayers, and state and local elected officials in determining the efficacy of counties and cities in providing services and measure residents' opinions of those services. Click here to access reporting results The Valley Branch Watershed District (VBWD) is a public organization tasked with protecting and managing local water resources within an area spanning 14 cities and townships in Washington and Ramsey Counties. The VBWD is seeking input from you as it begins updating its Watershed Management Plan which will guide VBWD actions for the next 10 years.
