City of Lake Elmo Park Commission
July 20th, 2015
Members Present: Weis, Zeno, Hartley, Nelson, Silvernale
Members Absent: Hieptas, Steele, Ames, Frick
Others Present: Mayor Pearson, Rolf Larsen, DPW Mike Bouthilet, Jaime Colemer, City Clerk Johnson
The meeting was called to order by Chair Weis at 7:12 PM.
Approval of Agenda
M/S/P: Hartley/Zeno: To approve the agenda with three additions – Item C under New Business: Sunfish Lake Park. 5 – 0.
Approval of June 20, 2015 Minutes
M/S/P: Weis/Zeno: Tabled to next meeting. 5 – 0.
Old Business–City Council Action on Park Commission Recommendations
i. Hazardous Tree Removal
DPW Mike Bouthilet reported that the hazardous tree removal has been completed.
ii. Sanctuary Park Final Touches Update
DPW Jamie Colemer reported that the first lift of the red court is done and touch ups are being done around the tether ball area. Discussion held concerning the work that needs to be
done to correct the slope prior to trail installation in order to meet ADA guidelines.
iii Pebble Park – Gazebo Progress
DPW Bouthilet reported that approximately $10,000 remains in the budget for this project. Design options for the gazebo were reviewed along with cost estimates. Chair Weis noted that
the gabled structure is less expensive and a cupola could be added for detail along with an oval sign for Lake Elmo branding to be standardized going forward. Commissioner Hartley
asked about cost to add electric outlets to the gazebo. DPW Bouthilet added that electric cutouts could be added to the poles for approximately $200, noting that power and water are
close to the location identified for the gazebo.
M/S/P: Chair Weis, seconded by Commissioner Hartley, moved to approve a 20 x 24 gazebo, not to exceed $30,000 with the gable roof design and cupola, oval sign, cutouts for electric and
rough in for water. Motion passed 5 – 0.
