HomeMy WebLinkAbout#10 - Fire Department Historical Display Project STAFF REPORT DATE: November 19, 2024 CONSENT TO: City Council FROM: Dustin Kalis, Fire Chief AGENDA ITEM: Approve Project Funding of Fire Department Historical Displays REVIEWED BY: Nicole Miller, City Administrator Dustin Kalis, Fire Chief BACKGROUND: With the consolidation of our two fire stations and the construction of the new City Center, the construction project originally included project funding for various fire department historical displays within the fire department areas of City Center. As the project continued, these historical displays were eliminated from the project. The fire department historical display project is being presented to complete these items that were unable to be completed within the original construction project. ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: Should the City Council approve the project funding for the fire department historical displays? PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS: The City Center project has provided the fire department a state-of-the-art facility that has greatly improved the departments operations and response model. Since the project’s inception, one area of concern from department staff was how we will incorporate our department rich history into our new shared space. The fire department historical display project will provide a combination of wall graphics, photographs, artifacts displaying our departments history and an Honor Wall paying tribute our charter members and all fire department staff serving 10 years or more. Portions of the displays will allow for the change out of photographs and updated graphics when a refresh is needed. FISCAL IMPACT: Through originally included in the City Center project as a budgeted line item, this proposed project has an increased scope. Total project cost is not to exceed $15,000. This project will not use any general fund funding. The project will be funded through donations the Fire Department has received in 2024 and the Lake Elmo Fire Department Equipment and Project Fund. OPTION: 1) Approve the fire department historical display project. 2) Deny the fire department historical display project. RECOMMENDATION: If removed from the consent agenda: “Motion to approve the fire department historical display project at a total project cost not to exceed $15,000.” ATTACHMENT: 1) KJ Branding Proposal 215 ATLAS AVENUE NE BUFFALO, MN 55313 WWW.KJBRANDING.COM 763.682.3127 September 23, 2024 Lake Elmo Fire Department Dustin Kalis | DKalis@lakeelmo.gov Staircase (shared space with city hall) (3) 20” x 30” reverse printed ¼” acrylic (3) 30” x 40” reverse printed ¼” acrylic Mounted with aluminum standoffs Staircase Total: $2,340 Flag Display 210” x 25” (36 sq ft) Vinyl Strip Background (1) 31.5” x 47.5” Updatable Acrylic Slider Mounted with aluminum standoffs (2) 30” x 20” Updatable Acrylic Slider (2) Flag Displays Flag Display Total: $2,118 History Fabric Graphic 120” x 56” (50 sq ft) Updatable Fabric Graphic Mounted with 1” frame and Hardware Fabric Total: $2,450 Honorees Display 51.5” x 47.75” Honoree Display w/ 8” x 8” Olympic Gold Logo (100) 5” x 1.5” Olympic Gold Honoree plaques Display Total: $3,215 Employee Display 121” x 24.25” (20 sq ft) Vinyl Background Strip 30 x 40” Updatable Acrylic Slider Mounted with aluminum standoffs Display Total: $770 Grand Total: $10,893 Travel & Installation: $2800 approx.
