AGENDA ITEM: Parks Commission Reappointments
SUBMITTED BY: Julie Johnson, City Clerk
BACKGROUND:
The Parks Commission is established to review and make recommendations to the Council on the future
development of city parks, including the establishment of and improvements to the parks, and to make
recommendations to the Council on policies governing the maintenance and public use of the parks within
the city. The Parks Commission shall consist of 7 members. The voting members shall be appointed by
the City Council for a 3-year term.
The terms of two commissioners expire 12/31/24: Hank Hoelscher and Pat Barrett. In addition, there is a
3 year term that has been vacant since Vittorio Bloyer’s resignation.
ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL:
Should the Council reappoint the two Parks Commissioners with terms that expire this year?
PROPOSAL:
Commissioners Hoelscher and Barrett have both requested reappointment.
The city has not received any additional applications for service on the Parks Commission.
The city will need to continue to advertise for applicants to fill the remaining position. Council members
are encouraged to recruit interested persons.
RECOMMENDATION:
If removed from the Consent Agenda, staff recommend the following motion:
“Move to reappoint Hank Hoelscher and Pat Barrett to the Parks Commission
for terms ending 12/31/27”
