<br /> STAFF REPORT <br />DATE: August 6, 2025 <br /> CONSENT <br /> <br />TO: Mayor and Councilmembers <br />FROM: City Clerk Julie Johnson <br />AGENDA ITEM: Approve Special Event Permit for A Ride to End ALZ <br /> <br /> <br />CORE STRATEGIES: <br /> <br />☒ Vibrant, inclusive, connected community ☐ Efficient, reliable, innovative services <br />☐ Responsive, transparent, adaptive governance ☐ Balanced Finances now and future <br />☐ Managed Growth ☐ Resilient Infrastructure <br /> <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Alzheimers Association is hosting A Ride to End ALZ in Minnesota and Wisconsin on August 24th. <br />Previously, this event started and ended in Maple Grove, but has moved to Stillwater and the surrounding <br />area this year. The ride will begin and end in Lowell Park in Stillwater. <br />ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: <br />Should the Council approve the special event permit for The Ride to End ALZ? <br /> <br />PROPOSAL: <br />The proposed routes for the event are attached. This is a rules-of-the-road event and the organizers <br />anticipate approximately 400 participants across the four distances. No road closures are requested and no <br />traffic control is needed since it is a rules of the road event. <br />Staff has conducted a review of the application and recommend approval. Fire Chief Kalis will make his <br />staff aware of the event but no standby crew will be provided. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT: <br />None <br /> <br />OPTIONS: <br />1) Approve the special event permit for A Ride to End ALZ as submitted <br />2) Approve the special event permit for A Ride to End ALZ with amendments <br />3) Do not approve the special event permit for A Ride to End ALZ <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br />“Move to approve the special event permit for A Ride to End ALZ on August 24, 2025” <br /> <br />ATTACHMENTS: <br />Special Event Permit Application with route maps
