BACKGROUND: The Parks Commission is established to review and make recommendations to
the Council on the future development of city parks, including the establishment of and
improvements to the parks, and to make recommendations to the Council on policies governing
the maintenance and public use of the parks within the city. The Parks Commission shall consist
of 7 members. The voting members shall be appointed by the City Council for a 3-year term.
There is currently one vacancy on the Parks Commission ending 12/31/2026.
ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL:
Who should the Council appoint to the Parks Commission?
PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS:
The council held a special meeting on My 20, 2025, to interview two applicants who applied to serve on
the Parks Commission. Tracey Peterson was appointed by the Council to serve on the Parks Commission.
Since the May 20th meeting, staff has become aware of the resignation of a Parks Commissioner, creating
a vacancy on the Commission.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None
OPTIONS:
Council may appoint the remaining applicant to the Parks Commission or continue to advertise for
applicants.
RECOMMENDATION:
“Move to appoint Giovanni Bloyer to the Parks Commission for a term ending 12/31/2026.
