BACKGROUND:
The Public Works Operator position has been vacant since April 4, 2025. This Operator position
plays a key role in completing essential tasks within the Public Works Department.
Interviews were conducted over the last few weeks by the Public Works Director, Assistant
Public Works Director, Lead Operator and an Operator 1. We are recommending Steven Yackel
as the preferred candidate to fill this necessary position.
ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL:
Should the Council approve Steven Yackel to be hired as Public Works Operator III?
PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS:
The recommendation is to hire Steven Yackel with pay rate at grade 3, step 9 with all other
benefits outlined in the Local 49 labor agreement.
Steven has a Class B CDL, with experience operating tandem dump trucks, paving and patching
asphalt, operating skid steers, completing snow removal, light equipment maintenance and
irrigation repairs
FISCAL IMPACT:
This position has been included in the 2025 budget.
RECOMMENDATION:
If removed from the consent agenda:
“Motion to approve hiring Steven Yackel as Public Works Operator III with salary grade 3, step
9.”
