STAFF REPORT <br />DATE: March 14, 2023 <br /> DISCUSSION <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />AGENDA ITEM: EDA Informational Memo to Council on BRE <br />SUBMITTED BY: Kristina Handt, City Administrator <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Conducting a Business Retention and Expansion Survey (BRE), has been identified as the top goal for the <br />EDA for 2022 and 2023. The EDA finalized the survey questions and decided to begin by meeting with <br />businesses in the Old Village area last year. At the August meeting, it was decided to move on to <br />contacting business es south of 10th St between Inwood Av e and Keats Ave. Also at the August meeting, <br />the commission discussed identifying their key findings and providing an update to the city council or <br />having a joint meeting with them. At the November 2022 meeting the commission gave direction to put <br />together an interim report and summary highlights to share with council. <br /> <br />ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: <br />What questions does Council have about the BRE program and/or information in the memo? <br /> <br />PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS: <br /> Included in your packet is an Information Memo from the EDA. They reviewed it at their Feb 21st <br />meeting and asked that it be shared with council at a work session. The memo includes background <br />information, a summary of key findings and possible actions for future consideration. More details about <br />the program and responses are included as attachments to the memo. <br /> <br />The EDA identified three key findings: signage, permitting process and website. <br /> <br />ATTACHMENT: <br />• Informational Memo to Council (with attachments not ed)
