Public Works hiring seasonal staff The City of Lake Elmo is hiring seasonal maintenance staff to support our full-time Public Works team with the maintenance and repair of city streets and parks. This hands-on position offers training in a variety of areas and the opportunity to work outdoors serving the community. The role is up to 40 hours per week, with a schedule of 6:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 6:30-10:30 a.m. on Fridays, May through August. Thank you to everyone who came out to skate and enjoy the ice this winter! Weather conditions no longer allow us to safely maintain the rinks, and crews will begin seasonal shutdown activities. We look forward to welcoming you back next winter. In the meantime, stay tuned for spring and summer park updates! Reminder: ice fishing house removal deadlines As temperatures warm and ice conditions change, please remember that all ice fishing houses must be removed by the state { deadlines: • Southern two-thirds of Minnesota: Must be off the ice by 11:59 p.m. on March 4 • Northern portion of Minnesota: Must be off by 11:59 p.m. on March 18 Removing ice houses by the deadline helps ensure public safety and protects our lakes as the ice begins to deteriorate. Dr. Paul Red Elk returns for _ medicinal tree class Tuesday, February 24 On Tuesday, February 24, at 6 p.m. we are excited to welcome back to the Sally Manzara Interpretive Nature Center, Dr. Paul Red Elk, for the second class in his series on Medicinal Trees. In each session, Paul will discuss the habitat the trees are found, the historical and modern medicine of the trees and additional uses of the trees beyond the medicine. This is a chance for you to connect with an experienced and well-educated native healer. Sessions run January through April, two Tuesday evenings each month, with a different topic each session (see our website calendar for specific dates and topics). The topic for this session will be maple trees! The cost is $50 per person/per session, and each session is designed to be standalone, so you can take any (and as many as) you like. Here are some easy swaps you can make today to reduce your reliance on plastics. • Use a reusable brush/roller instead of a disposable one. • Use wool dryer balls instead of dryer sheets. • Use beeswax wraps instead of plastic wrap. • Use a metal safety razor instead of plastic, disposable razors. • Use bar soap instead of bottled liquid soap. • Use Swedish dishcloths instead of paper towels. Although some may have slightly higher upfront costs, they last longer which might just save you money in the long run! Your local bulk store can also offer more options to reduce your plastic waste in daily food, household item, and cosmetic purchases. Recycling Ambassadors take a six -week training program to learn more about environmental health, waste systems, and recycling. Recycling Ambassadors will have opportunities to volunteer and encourage others to reduce, reuse, and recycle. The Spring 2026 session will be held Thursdays 6:30p-8:30p March 19 - April 23.
