Join Washington County Master Gardeners to learn about winter seed sowing Can you believe it's almost time to get seeds started? This year, put away the trays and try something different. Our friends from the Washington County Master Gardeners will be at the Sally Manzara Interpretive Nature Center on Saturday, February 28 at 10:30 to talk winter seed sowing. Specifically, they'll be showing us how to reuse everyday items like plastic milk jugs as growing spaces. Those containers can act like mini -greenhouses, allowing gardeners to move their starts outside sooner, making them hardier come late spring. This event is free, but we have limited space available. Here are some easy swaps you can make today to reduce your reliance on plastics. • Use a reusable brush/roller instead of a disposable one. • Use wool dryer balls instead of dryer sheets. • Use beeswax wraps instead of plastic wrap. • Use a metal safety razor instead of plastic, disposable razors. • Use bar soap instead of bottled liquid soap. • Use Swedish dishcloths instead of paper towels. Although some may have slightly higher upfront costs, they last longer which might just save you money in the long run!
