AESiRI��IRM �EYFEtr F__K Now purlag 1 Seasonal MiNkltennnoe Start Spring weight restrictions in effect March 3 The Minnesota Department of Transportation will start spring load restrictions in the SOUTH, SOUTHEAST, AND METRO frost zones, including Lake Elmo, on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 12:01 a.m. Lake Elmo follows MNDOT's start and end dates for the metro seasonal load limits. As frost leaves the ground, roadways become more vulnerable to damage from heavy vehicles. Limiting axle weights during this period helps preserve pavement conditions, reduce costly repairs, and extend the life of the City's transportation infrastructure. Drivers and commercial operators are encouraged to plan routes accordingly and comply with posted limits. Public Works hiring seasonal staff The City of Lake Elmo is hiring seasonal maintenance staff to support our full-time Public Works team with the maintenance and repair of city streets and parks. This hands-on position offers training in a variety of areas and the opportunity to work outdoors serving the community. The role is up to 40 hours per week, with a schedule of 6:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 6:30-10:30 a.m. on Fridays, May through August. Annual Arbor Day Tree Giveaway April 25 Residents are invited to the annual tree giveaway in Lake Elmo on April 25! Stop by the public works building between 8 am - 10 am to help grow our urban canopy, support sustainability, and bring home a free tree for your yard while supplies last. *You must be a resident of Lake Elmo to participate. Tree Trimming The City will be conducting tree trimming operations next week to maintain public safety and protect City infrastructure. Tree trimming is required when branches obstruct streetlights or traffic signs, block emergency vehicle access, are diseased, or present an imminent threat to property or public safety. Maintaining proper clearance helps ensure safe travel and reliable emergency response throughout the community. Residents may notice crews working in their area and are asked to use caution around equipment and personnel. DNR Reminder: ice fishing house removal deadlines As temperatures warm and ice conditions change, please remember that all ice fishing houses must be removed by the following dates: • 11:59 pm on March 2 for inland waters in the southern 2/3 of the state • 11:59 pm on March 16 for inland waters in the northern 1/3 of the state • 11:59 pm on March 31 for Minnesota - Canada border waters, including Lake of the Woods Removing ice houses by the deadline helps ensure public safety and protects our lakes as the ice begins to deteriorate. Lake Elmo Planning Commission vacancy, applications now open The City of Lake Elmo is accepting applications for a Planning Commission position beginning in March. Discover Prairie Oak and Savanna Ecosystems On Saturday, March 7 th at 11:00 Alex Bouthilet will be at the Sally Manzara Interpretive Nature Center to give a presentation covering his position with the US Fish and Wildlife Service at the Star Prairie Seed Farm and the basics of prairie and oak savanna ecosystems in our region. He will cover a variety of aspects related to the importance of plant biodiversity. If you want to know about prairie systems from someone who is in it all the time, this is a great opportunity to join us! Alex has worked with a range of conservation organizations including the Wisconsin DNR, the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), The Prairie Enthusiasts, and Standing Cedars Community Land Conservancy. After three years of volunteer work, the USFWS brought him on as an employee to assist with managing the local ecotype seed and plant program. Alex works to harvest and clean seeds of native plant species to be used on public land restoration projects throughout the district. He helps with the design, preparation, and planting of prairie, wetland, and oak savanna species and enjoys providing educational opportunities to on the many benefits of native plant species.
