Hometown Athlete Sydney Peterson wins 3 gold medals and a silver medal at 2026 Winter Games Lake Elmo's own Sydney Petersen brought home three gold medals in Paralympic Nordic skiing this year, winning the Women's 10K, 20K, and 2.5K mixed relay, along with a silver in the sprint. A Stillwater Area High School graduate, Sydney has overcome significant health challenges, including primary dystonia and brain surgery in 2023, to continue competing at an elite level. After earning three medals at the 2022 Paralympic Games and two more at the 2025 World Championships, her perseverance and success continue to inspire us all. Congratulations, Sydney! Master Gardener Paul Spilseth returns to share more on prairie ecosystems The Sally Manzara Interpretive Nature Center welcomes Washington County Master Gardener Paul Spilseth, on Saturday, March 21 at 11 a.m., for a presentation called Prairie 101. This is the second in a series of programming focused on Prairie ecosystems and it provides a do-it-yourself instruction for anyone interested in creating a prairie, a natural landscape utilizing native glasses and flowers. No matter what size prairie you are interested in, from acreage to small plot, this class covers all steps of planning a preparation as well as maintenance to ensure your creation continues to thrive for years to come. This class also provides information about budget, site selection, plant or seed selection, and planting. This event is free and open to the public.
