Stay tuned for updates to help you plan ahead and travel safely! Hwy 36 and Lake Elmo Ave. Preconstruction Meeting Wed., May 20 Washington County, in partnership with MnDOT and the cities of Grant and Lake Elmo, will host a pre-construction open house for planned improvements to the Highway 36 and County Highway 17 (Lake Elmo Avenue) intersection. The open house will take place Wednesday, May 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. in Lower-Level Room 14 at the Washington County Government Center (14949 62nd St. N., Stillwater, MN 55082). Highway construction begins in June. This project will be ongoing through the fall of 2027. Julia Avenue N Southbound Lane Closure May 11 The southbound lanes of Julia Avenue North between Hudson Boulevard and 4 Street will be closed starting Monday, May 11, with an anticipated reopening on Friday, May 15. Advance notice of the closure has been posted and a detour for southbound traffic will be posted during the closure. th CSAH 14 - Stillwater Blvd Closure Westbound from 39th St. to Lake Elmo Ave. N. The City of Lake Elmo has retained Miller Excavating to replace an existing section of water main that is failing along Stillwater Boulevard (CSAH 14). CSAH 14 (Stillwater Boulevard) will be closed to westbound traffic from 39th Street to Lake Elmo Ave. N. (west of the elementary school). The anticipated start date of this work is May 26th, and it will be in place for two months. Stillwater Boulevard will be eastbound traffic only. All access points to side streets (Lake Elmo Avenue, Laverne Avenue, and Layton Avenue) will be open to turn onto off Stillwater Boulevard. All residential and commercial driveways that access to Stillwater Boulevard will be open during construction and accessible if traveling eastbound on Stillwater Boulevard. The work is expected to take approximately 2 months to complete (weather dependent). Island Trail Road Closure Begins Wednesday, May 6 Island Trail will be closed between Eagle Point Boulevard and 5th Street North beginning May 6, 2026, to allow for roadway and utility work related to the Inwood Townhomes development. The closure is expected to last approximately three weeks. Detour signage will be posted next week to help guide drivers and pedestrians around the work area. Lake Elmo Fire Department to Offer Hands-Only CPR Training The Lake Elmo Fire Department is offering free Hands-Only CPR training for residents and business owners. Participants will learn two simple steps that can help save a life: call 911 and push hard and fast in the center of the chest. Training sessions are planned for Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon at Lake Elmo City Center on: June 6 August 8 October 10 Classes are limited to 20 participants and are educational only; no certification will be provided. Annual MN Fishing Opener Saturday, May 9, 12:01 a.m. The Minnesota DNR expects nearly half a million anglers to take part in Saturday’s annual fishing opener. With everything budding out right now, it can be a little difficult to tell buckthorn from some of the other tree and plant species out there. But mustard garlic is easy to spot! We are excited to have Larissa Mottl, from Stantec, the project coordinator for the buckthorn removal project in Sunfish Lake Park, who will lead a wildflower walk so hikers can see where native forbs are returning after so many years of being choked out by buckthorn. Along the way, we'll clean up some other invasives: garlic mustard. The work is pretty easy, and we have gloves for you--ticks are pretty bad right now, so be sure you use your preferred method for protecting yourself. We’ll get started at 9:30. Learn more at SMINC. This funding has enabled Lake Elmo to provide a rebate to current water customers who replace existing devices with specified water-efficient products, or who have an irrigation system audit completed by a professional. Qualifying purchases are eligible for a rebate on your water bill. These credits range from $150 to $500, dependent on your rebate type.
