Stay tuned for updates to help you plan ahead and travel safely! Hwy 36 and Lake Elmo Ave. Preconstruction Meeting Wed., May 20 Washington County, in partnership with MnDOT and the cities of Grant and Lake Elmo, will host a pre-construction open house for planned improvements to the Highway 36 and County Highway 17 (Lake Elmo Avenue) intersection. The open house will take place Wednesday, May 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. in Lower-Level Room 14 at the Washington County Government Center (14949 62nd St. N., Stillwater, MN 55082). Highway construction begins in June. This project will be ongoing through the fall of 2027. Julia Avenue N Southbound Lane Closure May 11 The southbound lanes of Julia Avenue North between Hudson Boulevard and 4 Street will be closed starting Monday, May 11, with an anticipated reopening on Friday, May 15. Advance notice of the closure has been posted and a detour for southbound traffic will be posted during the closure. th CSAH 14 - Stillwater Blvd Closure Westbound from 39th St. to Lake Elmo Ave. N. The City of Lake Elmo has retained Miller Excavating to replace an existing section of water main that is failing along Stillwater Boulevard (CSAH 14). CSAH 14 (Stillwater Boulevard) will be closed to westbound traffic from 39th Street to Lake Elmo Ave. N. (west of the elementary school). The anticipated start date of this work is May 26th, and it will be in place for two months. Stillwater Boulevard will be eastbound traffic only. All access points to side streets (Lake Elmo Avenue, Laverne Avenue, and Layton Avenue) will be open to turn onto off Stillwater Boulevard. All residential and commercial driveways that access to Stillwater Boulevard will be open during construction and accessible if traveling eastbound on Stillwater Boulevard. The work is expected to take approximately 2 months to complete (weather dependent). Island Trail Road Closure Begins Wednesday, May 6 Island Trail will be closed between Eagle Point Boulevard and 5th Street North beginning May 6, 2026, to allow for roadway and utility work related to the Inwood Townhomes development. The closure is expected to last approximately three weeks. Detour signage will be posted next week to help guide drivers and pedestrians around the work area. Plans are Underway for the New Sports Complex - Central Park! The City is beginning the planning process for the future of newly acquired land for a park between Sunfish Park and the Lake Elmo Park Reserve. Planning is still in the very early stages. Over the coming months, the City will work to develop a plan and explore potential possibilities for the property, with opportunities for community input along the way. As a next step in the process, the City of Lake Elmo is issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) to solicit qualified consultants to further evaluate the project, shape the vision, gather community feedback, and assess feasibility. Lake Elmo Fire Department to Offer Hands-Only CPR Training The Lake Elmo Fire Department is offering free Hands-Only CPR training for residents and business owners. Participants will learn two simple steps that can help save a life: call 911 and push hard and fast in the center of the chest. Training sessions are planned for Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon at Lake Elmo City Center on: June 6 August 8 October 10 Classes are limited to 20 participants and are educational only; no certification will be provided. Spring Turkey Hunting Season Continues Through May 31 Turkey hunters who have not harvested a bird during the 2026 A-E seasons can participate in the F season from May 20–31. Hunters may still purchase an F season license, and youth hunters ages 17 and younger with a license may hunt during any spring A-F season. Licenses are available online, by phone, or through local license agents. Dr. Paul Red Elk's Tree Medicine Series Ends May 19 On Tuesday, May 19, we are happy to host the last of Dr. Paul Red Elk’s Tree Medicine series. Class starts at 6 p.m. and this week’s topic will be “Tree Spirituality.” In each session, Paul discusses the habitat the trees are found, the historical and modern medicine of the trees and additional uses of the trees beyond the medicine. This is a chance for you to connect with an experienced and well-educated native healer. He will not teach this series again until 2028. Paul Red Elk is a member of the Mnikoju Lakota tribe (pronounced Miniconjou – plants by water); He is of the grizzly bear clan and grew up on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota. Paul was trained as a traditional Lakota herbalist and medicine man from childhood by his grandparents. Paul is also trained in Dakota, Anishinaabe, Ho Chunk, Chippewa, Onida, Sac and Fox. This funding has enabled Lake Elmo to provide a rebate to current water customers who replace existing devices with specified water-efficient products, or who have an irrigation system audit completed by a professional. Qualifying purchases are eligible for a rebate on your water bill. These credits range from $150 to $500, dependent on your rebate type.
