CITY OF LAKE ELMO
WASHINGTON COUNTY, MINNESOTA
A RESOLUTION SETTING FORTH THE CITY'S CURRENT POSITION
ON THE LAKE ELMO AIRPORT
WHEREAS, the City of Lake Elmo has received and reviewed the
proposed Metropolitan Airports Commission Comprehensive Plan Update
for Lake Elmo Airport and,
WHEREAS, the City remains opposed to any expansion of the Lake
Elmo Airport facility.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by City Council, City of Lake
Elmo, that the City hereby approves of the classification of the Lake
Elmo Airport as a Minor Airport; and,
THAT, the City opposes any further expansion of the Lake Elmo
Airport except to improve safety for single propeller aircraft at the
current traffic level, and,
THAT, the City is in basic agreement with the proposed Aviation
Chapter, insofar as it does not conflict with this Resolution; and,
THAT, the City expresses its concerns in the following areas;
a. Proper zoning to avoid and control the development of
incompatible uses and activities on or adjacent to the
land which constitutes the Lake Elmo Airport.
b. Controls for the altitude of planes in the area adjacent
to the Lake Elmo Airport so as to prevent safety hazards,
noise or other nuisances adversely affecting property
adjacent to the airport.
C. Installation of an appropriate control tower or other
safety devices for current levels of traffic at the
Lake Elmo Airport.
d. Effects of current and future airport operations on
surface waters in the area.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Administrator is hereby
instructed to send copies of this Resolution to the Metropolitan
Council and Metropolitan Airport Commission and to such other
interested persons and governmental agencies as mav__ expropriate.
