CITY OF LAKE ELM® <br />WASHINGTON COUNTY, MINNESOTA <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2003-041 <br />WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Transportation has erected a large <br />Klondike Avenue street sign facing westbound traffic on State Highway 5; <br />WHEREAS, a similar Klondike Avenue street sign for eastbound traffic has been <br />in place for some time; <br />WHEREAS, the City of Lake Elmo has received a request to remove the new <br />westbound Klondike Avenue street sign; <br />WHEREAS, the City Council directed staff to mail letters to the nine property <br />owners /residents along Klondike Avenue advising them of this request; <br />WHEREAS, the majority of the residents along Klondike Avenue had no <br />objections to the removal of the Klondike Avenue street sign; <br />WHEREAS, the City has received comments fi'om Klondike Avenue residents <br />indicating the 55 MPH speed limit and lack of a protected left turn lane from State <br />Highway 5 was a far greater safety issue than whether or not there was a Klondike sign <br />on Highway 5; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lake Elmo City Council <br />requests MnDOT to remove the Klondike Avenue street sign facing westbound traffic on <br />State Highway 5, on the basis that this sign serves a limited number of houses. <br />ADOPTED, by the Lake Elmo City Council on the 6th of May, 2003. <br />
