WASHINGTON COUNTY, MINNESOTA
RESOLUTION NO. 2007 -035
WHEREAS The City of lake Elmo agreed in May 2002 to allow Tubman Family Alliance
to buy City property for a 3o- person, safe - shelter for women and children leaving
abusive homes, for a period of time sufficient to acquire a permanent east -metro
residential and support service site; and,
WHEREAS the City of Lake Elmo has found Hill Home and Tubman Family Alliance,
the agency, to be excellent neighbors and citizens in serving our residents, managing the
property, working with City inspectors, and participating as one of our St Croix United
Way agencies; and
WHEREAS Tubman's legal services division residing in the Brookfield Building II,
immediately behind Lake Elmo City Hall, is also an effective community service and
excellent neighbor; and,
WHEREAS the agency has been a good community business partner using Lake Elmo
Bank, Lake Elmo Oil, Fury Dodge to lease vehicles, and staff enjoys Gorman's
restaurant, Hagberg's and Lake Elmo Inn; and.,
WHEREAS Lake Elmo residents serve on Tubman's staff, board and as volunteers; and,
WHEREAS Tubman Family Alliance has been a primary aid and service provider to the
families in Lake Elmo's HomeTown American Cimarron as well as a partner in service to
the Washington County Sheriffs Department;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the City Council of the City of Lake EImo
recommend. that Tubman Family Alliance be recognized for its effective work in building
healthy families in our City, in working in partnership with our public services, in
building healthy communities, and in engaging with other Lake Elmo businesses to
make a stronger, effective economy where we live and work; and
FURTHER, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, with regret, we wish to recommend to the City of
Maplewood, the approval of the proposed Planned Use Development, bringing Tubman
Family Alliance to your community, as a Iocally and nationally recognized human
service agency, dedicated to serving citizens while providing exceptional education in
violence prevention, building healthy families, and working in partnership with leaders
to strengthen and establish strong communities.
