March 6, 1968
Present: Franta, Klohn, Kleis, Leslie, Lundquist, Schiltgen
1). Mr. Carl W. Dokmo appeared for a rezoning request for ten acres of
land on the NW corner of the Highway 94= 694 intersection. He has an option
for this land and wants to move his Royal Oldsmobile agency to it. He plans
a building to service, handle and sell new and used automobiles. Estimated
cost is $6--700, 000. Mr. Dokmo was told that this land plus the next two sites
of 14 and 17 acres immediately to the north should be planned as a unit
especially as regards getting the traffic in and out of the area.
2). Mr. Huppert requested approval of the final plat of ten acres on the
Lake Jane road (part of NW1/4 of Section 15). Approved.
3). Bill Widman and F. Franta discussed the problem of cleaning up the
island area and wanted to know whether less than present minimum lot sizes
might be allowed in an effort to upgrade the area. In cases where lot shape
and availability might indicate this to be the best solution for the community
the Planning Commission felt that something less than a rigid interpretation
of the ordinances would be recommended.
4). Ed Larson of Suburban Lighting Inc, 410 South 6th St. , Stillwater,
appeared to inquire about rezoning about 4 acres of land on the NW corner of
Section 1 of East Oakdale Township to commercial. This land extends from
under the power line almost to Highway 36 and 1/8 mile deep from County
road 17. The land is presently owned by Mrs. Dearborn. Mr. Larson
would also try to acquire the narrow strip of land along 36 from Mr. Bergman.
On the following day I talked this matter over with Carl Dale. Our proposed
new zoning ordinance calls for this land to be agricultural or some class of
rural residential (?). Mr. Dale suggested that we should stick with this
plan unless Mr. Larson could show that the commercial zoning would be an
improvement for the community.
