Management
of a community's infrastructure and other public assets is vital to preserving and extending the service life of
these items, which are important to the vitality and stability of a community. Using an asset management
program can help a community better track where and what their assets are, maintain those assets, and help
budget and plan for the future of those assets. Having an asset management program can help standardize
the collection, storage, access and reporting of asset information. Users can easily retrieve information from
a wide network of interrelated data sources. This enables a community to make better -informed decisions in
a timely manner. Ultimately, this can help save a community valuable time and money.
Below is a summary of the two programs we have presented that will allow the City of Lauderdale to efficiently
enter, store, and manage its assets. We have also provided an informational sheet that compares the
functions of the two different systems.
Asset Insight
Asset Insight is designed to be the most integral part of a community's comprehensive asset management
system. It is a customizable Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping application that enables
individual users to access, display and manage their data on the cloud by any phone, tablet or
computer. Asset Insight allows for an unlimited number of users for a community which allows individuals
from all departments access to the data and information to help them make decisions that may impact the
whole community. Asset Insight has many customizable plugins available (please see attached spreadsheet
for full list) and Stantec will work closely with staff to determine how it can be customized to serve your
community best. The cost for Asset Insight would be a yearly maintenance cost of $250/month or $3,000/
year.
ArcGIS Online
ArcGIS Online is a cloud -based mapping platform for organizations that can be used from anywhere on any
device, web browser, or desktop application. Organizations can subscribe to this secure platform and use it
to manage, create, store, and access hosted services, maps, and applications. Through the use of ArcGIS
Online, government agencies improve operations and enhance services provided to the public. Municipalities
recognize the impact on their organizations when they use location to prioritize strategies, innovate, and
collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. ArcGIS Online reduces the time it takes to deploy
location bases solutions in your organization. Desktop and mobile applications will greatly increase the
workforce efficiencies and help reduce the use of paper documents by storing it digitally in a cloud
environment.
With any asset management system there is also an initial setup cost to compile the data and information that
the community has and enter it into the system. The initial set-up cost for the two programs would be very
similar. In each case, the City also has the option to enter some or all of the data into the system to reduce
costs.
Desic7n with community in mind
