V <br />S. Inattentive Driving <br />Objective: To develop a communications plan and marketing materials to discourage inattentive driving. <br />The world can sometimes be a crazy and fast -paced place. Texting, talking on a cell phone, putting <br />make-up on, eating your dinner on the way to a meeting, soccer game, or concert is the "new normal". <br />All of these distractions are contributing to a new pandernic of inattentive driving. Each year in <br />Minnesota, distracted or inattentive driving is a factor in one in four crashes, of which a significant <br />amount are underreported due to law enforcement's challenge in determining distraction as a factor in <br />accidents. Working with the City's Police Department on understanding the existing inattentive driving <br />issues and creating a communications plan and marketing materials to discourage inattentive driving will <br />aid in the goal of creating safe streets for vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists alike. Citizen Engagement in a Changing Community <br />Objective: To study the community demographics and existing modes of communication and develop a plan for <br />enhancing citizen engagement and promotion of sustainability information and news a changing community. <br />The times have changed, technology has changed, and the ways people receive and deliver information <br />has changed. As communities prepare plans, changes to the codes and bylaws, engage public opinion, <br />deliver utility bills, and so on, a constant struggle to communicate the message is occurring. How can <br />we as a City better position ourselves to solicit input and citizen engagement in a changing community? <br />What are the current demographic trends in our community? What are the preferred methods of <br />communication (e.•g. facebook, twitter, City website, newsletter, etc.)? How can communities better <br />communicate with• <br />property owners and property renters? Are there language barriers that exist and <br />how can we ensure the messages delivered are being received? Inflow and Infiltration (1/1) Improvements Program <br />Objective: To study and prepare recommendations for continuation in theImprovements Program by <br />summarizing efforts made over the past decade. <br />Inflow and Infiltration (1/1) is clear water that enters the sewer system from a variety of sources. As <br />communities within the Metropolitan Area, all three communities are a part of the ongoing 1/1 Reduction <br />Program as set forth by the Metropolitan Council 1/1 Task Force in 2004. The program provides <br />financial incentives for cities to reduce excessive 1/1 into the regional wastewater system from both <br />public and private sources. Over time the City has made significant infrastructure improvements and <br />
