LAUDERDALE COUNCIL <br />ACTION FORM <br />Action Requested <br />Consent <br />Public Hearing <br />Discussion _X <br />Action _X <br />Resolution <br />ork Session <br />Meeting Date May 27, 2014 <br />ITEM NUMBER Cable Franchise Renewal <br />STAFF INITIAL <br />The North Suburban Cable Commission (NSCC), which the City is a member, has been ne- <br />gotiating with Comeast regarding the cable franchise for the past several years. At this <br />meeting, the City Council will need to decide whether to adopt one of two resolutions pro- <br />vided in your packet. The first one . would renew the franchise with Comeast pursuant to <br />Comcast's Proposal. The second would preliminarily deny the franchise renewal with Com <br />cast. I <br />The NSCC is recommending that the City Council preliminarily deny Comcast's franchise <br />proposal. The reasons are many and provided in summary in the packet. Please refer to the <br />denial resolution and the report titled Supplemental Staff ort on the Comcast Formal <br />Iff - Rep <br />Proposalfor Renewed Franchises with the NSCC Member Cities. <br />Cor Wilson, Executive Director of the NSCC, will be at the meeting to provide greater clari- <br />ty regarding the negotiations to date and the reasons behind the Commission's recommenda- <br />tion to preliminarily deny the franchise renewal with Comcast. <br />1. Motion to adopt Resolution 052714A—Renewal of Comcast of Minnesota, LLC., Cable <br />Franchise. <br />2. Motion to adopt Resolution 052714 Preliminary Assessment that the Comcast of <br />Minnesota, Inc., Cable Franchise should not be Renewed. <br />
