CITY OF LAUDERDALE
COUNTY OF RAMSEY
STATE OF MINNESOTA
A RESOLUTION TO EXTEND PERIOD OF
LOCAL EMERGENCY AND EXTENDING CURFEW
WHEREAS, Minnesota Statute § 12.29, subd. 1 allows the governing body of a local
government to extend the period of a local emergency declared pursuant to Minnesota Statute §
12.29, subd. 1.
WHEREAS, the Mayor of Lauderdale has found that the following emergency situation exists:
1. The cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, have experienced widespread civil
unrest since at least May 26, 2020.
2. Said civil unrest has included violent and destructive acts that have placed public
safety at risk and resulted in near catastrophic property damage.
3. The City of Lauderdale geographically borders both Minneapolis and St. Paul.
4. The law enforcement personnel and emergency first responders for the City of
Lauderdale expect violent and destructive acts of civil unrest to continue and escalate
without invocation of certain portions of the City's emergency management plan.
WHEREAS, the Mayor has declared that the situation constitutes a local emergency;
WHEREAS, the City Council agrees with the Mayor's findings and further finds that the local
emergency will last for more than three days;
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council that:
1. On June 1, 2020, Governor Walz issued an extension of the curfew for the cities of
Minneapolis and St. Paul for an additional two days. The curfew will be in place from 10
p.m. to 4 a.m.
2. The City of Lauderdale will implement curfew to coincide with the City of Minneapolis
or until the City Council determines the curfew can be terminated.
3. This declaration of a local emergency will invoke the City's Emergency Management
Plan. The portions that are necessary for response to and recovery from the emergency
must be used.
Adopted this 1st day of June, 2020.
