Mayor Dains called the City Council meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
Councilors present: Mary Gaasch, Roxanne Grove, Lara Mac Lean, and Mayor Jeff Dains.
Councilors Absent: Denise Hawkinson.
Staff present: Heather Butkowski, City Administrator and Jim Bownik, Assistant City
Administrator.
Mayor Dains asked for changes to the meeting agenda. Councilor Grove added a
discussion of Peace Officers Week. Councilor Gaasch moved to approve the agenda as
amended. Councilor Mac Lean seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Councilor Grove moved to approve the April 14, 2015, City Council meeting minutes.
Councilor Mac Lean seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Councilor Mac Lean moved approval of the claims totaling $20,700.52. Councilor Grove
seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Update on CenturyLink Requestfor Franchise
Cor Wilson, Executive Director of the North Suburban Cable Commission, addressed the
Council. She said Comcast recently had cancelled their merger proceedings with Time Warner.
That ended the planning and discussions the Cable Commission had been working on to prepare
for the change. She also updated the Council on CenturyLink's application for a franchise.
Deputy Clerk Appointment
Butkowski said the deputy clerk selection committee recommended hiring Terry Berg as the new
deputy clerk. As Terry brings a wealth of experience, the recommendation was to hire her at
step 3 of the wage scale. For pay equity purposes, Butkowski also recommended the Council
approve changing the deputy clerk wage scale to match that of the public works maintenance
worker.
Councilor Gaasch moved to appoint Terry Berg to the deputy clerk position effective April
29, 2015 and raise the deputy clerk pay scale to match that of the public works
maintenance worker.
Additional Items: Peace Officers Week
The Council discussed way to demonstrate the City's appreciation for Peace Officers Week.
Staff will discuss with Chief Ohl and bring the officers doughnuts or a cake or something similar
to show appreciation. Additionally, staff will work off the idea of building a community card at
Day in the Park.

The agenda for the next meeting may include the March financial report and appointment of a
new public works employee.
Work Session:
Mayor Dains explained that the Council was moving into the Work Session. Work Sessions are
a continuation of the meeting but not aired on community television. Mayor Dains asked if
anyone wished to address the Council. No one came forward.
Community Development Update
Butkowski said the Chinese Christian Church has not established a purchase price yet. The
Council discussed whether it might make sense to explore options for the City repurposing that
property.
Closed Session
Mayor Dains said the Council was moving into a Closed Session to discuss putting in an offer on
1821 Eustis Street. The time being 8:18 p.m.
The Council returned from the Closed Session at 8:33 p.m.
There being no further business on the council agenda, Councilor Gaasch moved to
adjourn the meeting. Councilor Grove seconded the motion and it carried. The meeting
adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
