This is a drop manhole that is not accessible. It is between railroad tracks and a building. Twin City Die Casting built a building over the city line. The manhole problem is difficult to access. Have to get over RR tracks. No road access. It took a long time to get blockage resolved. The sewage ran across 33rd into RR track right of way by Hawkins Chemical. Dave received a message this morning from Steve Littenberg, 612-617- 8694, Hawkins Chemical safety person, that they will have someone come out and clean it up. Dave believes it was taken care of over the weekend. There was about a 1000 gallons of sewage. It also backed up into Twin City Die and it ran out through the open door across 33rd into the RR right of way. Joe Hughes; city employee, worked on it through the night Joe Hughes. His contact number is the same as Dave's. There was a significant amount of root blockage in manhole. MPCA staff visited both facilities this morning and also viewed the sewage discharge area. From the evidence gathered today it is the Agency's view that the City of Lauderdale has not responded to the overflow and subsequent cleanup in an appropriate manner. They plan to clean up behind the building tomorrow (Thursday) and clean up in the front of the building on Friday. They expect to have crews on-site around 7:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. The Veit crew plans to bring equipment to the back of the building from the south side. They will remove a couple of inches of soil (and vegetation that is in the way) and haul it past your patio area. They expect to haul in some rock to create a more even surface back there. After the fact, the will bring in fill to the area. As we also discussed, Veit will clean the area you refer to as the "bone yard" on Friday. They will also clean in the parking lot area as warranted. We kindly ask that you have the items stored in the area between the buildings moved by the time they arrive on Friday and provide them access. I have provided space below for you to acknowledge this and allow the City to enter TCDC's property to follow through on this plan. My understanding is that you are signing this with authorization from Greg Hanson, President of Twin City Die Casting.
