CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW <br />OFFICE OF THE MAYOR <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, May, 2010 is recognized as Building Safety Month by the International Code <br />Council; and <br />WHEREAS, Mounds View's continuing efforts to address the critical issues of safety, energy <br />efficiency and sustainability in the built environment that affect our citizens, both in everyday life and <br />in times of natural disaster, give us confidence that our structures are safe and sound; and <br />WHEREAS, our confidence is achieved through the devotion of vigilant guardians— local, <br />state and federal building safety and fire prevention officials, architects, engineers, builders, laborers <br />and others in the construction industry —who work year -round to ensure the safe construction of <br />buildings, and; <br />WHEREAS, these guardians develop, implement, and enforce codes to protect the citizens of <br />Mounds View, as well as Minnesotans and all Americans, in the buildings where we live, learn, work <br />and play; and <br />WHEREAS, the International Codes, the most widely adopted building safety, energy and fire <br />prevention codes in the nation, are used by most U.S. cities, counties and states; these modern building <br />codes include safeguards to protect the public from natural disasters such as snowstorms, tornadoes, <br />hurricanes, earthquakes and wild fires, and; <br />WHEREAS, each year, in observance of Building Safety Month, Mounds View residents are <br />asked to consider projects to improve building safety and sustainability; <br />WHEREAS, the residents of Mounds View are encouraged to support and recognize the <br />critical role their Building Department and Building Officials play in assuring us of safe and livable <br />building and improving public safety. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Joe Flaherty, Mayor of the City of Mounds <br />View, do hereby proclaim: <br />MAY 2010 <br />BUILDING SAFETY MONTH <br />And further acknowledges the professionalism of its Building Department Staff and their <br />dedication to Public Safety and hereby express my sincere thanks and appreciation to all those who <br />are involved in maintaining and improving public safety. <br />Given under my hand and seal of the City of Mounds View this 26 day of April, 2010 <br />(Seal) <br />
