RESOLUTION NO. 7618 <br />CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW <br />RAMSEY COUNTY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br />A RESOLUTION ESTABLSHING AN ABSENTEE BALLOT BOARD FOR THE <br />2010 PRIMARY AND GENERAL ELECTION <br />WHEREAS, the Military and Overseas Empowerment (MOVE) Act, which was <br />signed into law by President Obama on October 28, 2009, required Minnesota to move the <br />Primary Election to August 10, 2010; and <br />WHEREAS, the MOVE Act provided for a 45-day absentee balloting period; and <br />WHEREAS, the Minnesota Election Law provides authority to a municipality to <br />establish an Absentee Ballot Board in accordance with the provisions of the law; and <br />WHEREAS, the purpose of the Absentee Ballot Board is to allow election judges to <br />reject or accept absentee ballots that are received within 45 days of the election; and <br />WHEREAS, City staff trained as election judges will serve on the Absentee Ballot <br />Board. <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mounds View City Council <br />authorizes an Absentee Ballot Board for the purpose of reviewing all absentee ballots and <br />marking the absentee ballot envelopes as "accepted" or "rejected", and tracking all <br />Absentee Ballots in accordance with federal and state election laws. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Mounds View <br />authorizes the City Administrator to appoint additional election judges to serve on the <br />Absentee Ballot Board should there be a need. <br />Adopted this 24th day of May, 2010. <br />o , ayor <br />ATTEST: ~ ~^~~ <br />James Ericson, City Administrator <br />(seai~ <br />
