Mayor and Council <br />Mayor Marty indicated he would like to discuss housing inspections for rental properties as he <br />read in the paper up north about a resident in Duluth who was evicted from her rental as the <br />housing inspector told her she was too elc~se to another rental pxoperty. Mayor Marty indicated <br />that he would like to have some control over safety of renters and erisure that things like egress <br />windows in lower level units are provided. <br />Council Member Mueller noted that all Council'' Members received an invitation to Penny • <br />Pinchers grand reopening on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. This store <br />warks with youth to allow them to learn how a store works. <br />Council Member Mueller indicated =there is an ;opportunity to attend the League of Minnesota <br />Cities seminar on November 29; 2007. <br />Interi~ Administrator ~ricson notec~'that the City is a collection point for Toys for Tots and Staff <br />wanfed to highlight that the City is also a drop off point for the food shelf. Staff suggested that <br />Staff and Council bring non-perishable food items to either the December 3 or December 10, <br />2007 Council M~etings to show support for the project. <br />B. <br />L ' Reminder - Cancellation of December 26, 2007 Meeting <br />Council Member Flaherty noted his t~es are going down and said that he would like Finance <br />Director Beer to explain why this is happening. <br />Finance Director Beer explained that the City has an expanding tax base, and the tax rate went <br />down. The County taxes went down as a result of the phase out of the limited market value. <br />Finance Director Beer explained that the FCC has passed another ruling on PEG fees that could <br />impact the franchise fees the City receives. • <br />
