A letter was also read from Northern States Power which invited the Mayor to an <br />important meeting on pollution control on July 23rd at the Holiday Inn in St. <br />Paul. Clerk Zylla was authorized to attend on the Council's behalf. <br />A resident, Richard Hedin, requested action on a variance for a 1,082 square <br />foot garage. Application was made the day following the Planning Commission <br />meeting and Mr. Hedin was referred to the Planning Commission meeting of next <br />month. <br />Clerk- Administrator Zylla's Report <br />MSP (Blanchard /Johnson) To approve the licenses: Heating Ray N. Welter <br />Heating Company, Frank's Heating Sheet Metal Company, Montgomery Ward <br />Company, Suburban Air Conditioning Company; Sewer and Water 0 H Excavation <br />Company, Northtown Plumbing Company, Inc.; General Contracting Boda <br />Construction Company, Royal Aluminum Products, Inc., Eicher Wichterman, Inc., <br />The Sussel Company, C. W. Houle Landscaping, Inc., All -State American Concrete <br />Inc., Naegele Outdoor Advertising Company, Inc., Empire Sales, Inc., Brede,Inc., <br />Staber Construction Company, Inc., Arnold H. Johnson, Husnik Johnson; On -Sale <br />Intoxicating Liquor Anthony Donatelle, Ervin Herbst, Gerald Waste and Robert <br />Waste; and Cabaret, Restaurant Sunday Mermaid Cocktail Lounge, Inc. 5 Ayes <br />MSP (Malvin /Hodges) To approve the bills: General Checks #335 -3372 and <br />Payroll Checks #917-946. Total disbursements $32,339.88. 5 Ayes <br />Councilman Malvin's Report <br />Councilman Malvin reported that since the first of June $7,222.25 in building <br />permit fees was received. <br />Councilman Hodges' Report <br />2 <br />Councilman Hodges stated that he had attended the Civil Defense Meeting on the <br />shelter plan for the Twin Cities area which the Mayor had announced at the June <br />9th meeting. A formal civil defense plan is to be developed in the next three <br />months. It also was announced that the Civil Defense truck would be stored and <br />used by Ramsey County. <br />Councilman Blanchard's Report <br />MSP (Blanchard /Rustad) To hire Gregory Beck, 6928 Pleasantview Drive, for part <br />time employment in the maintenance department through August 29th at a salary of <br />$500.00 per month. <br />Councilman Blanchard also noted that we have had some trouble with the plastic <br />sewer pipe on Silver Lake Road and the Engineer was asked to check the situation. <br />Some discussion followed on the sewer construction work which was done on the <br />8400 block of Groveland Road. The contractor excavated the major portion of the <br />street to connect the new homes which were built in the area. Attorney Meyers <br />was authorized to amend our ordinance so that the contractors would post a <br />preformance bond and repairs would be made by the contractor himself. At the <br />present time a $40.00 street opening fee is required per opening. <br />5 Ayes <br />
