PAUL, MINN. 55112 <br />7843055 <br />MAYORAL PROCLAMATION <br />MODERN VOLUNTEER ARMY MONTH SEPTEMBER, 1972 <br />WHEREAS, A free society such as ours needs a strong Army to <br />protect its highest interest in times of grave <br />national peril; and to be strong and effective an <br />Army must be entirely contemporary and in tune with <br />the needs of its personnel and the larger society <br />it serves; and <br />WHEREAS, The Modern Volunteer Army is taking new and bold steps <br />to accommodate the legitimate sensitivities and desires <br />of today's young American men and women; and <br />WHEREAS, Today's Army offers to many of the Village of Mounds <br />View's most promising young men and women the oppor- <br />tunity to advance themselves academically and, in <br />addition, the chance to receive training in more than <br />300 different jobs and skills, that they may become more <br />useful and responsible citizens of the Village of Mounds <br />View and our nation by furthering their professional <br />and academic abilities; and <br />Answering the call to serve one's community and country <br />can and should be a highly honorable vocation, meriting <br />the respect and esteem of all Americans; <br />PINEWOOD <br />HILLVI EW <br />KNOL LWOOD <br />TWELVE OAKS <br />JOHN PICKAR, COUNCILMAN ROGER BAUMGARTNER, COUNCILMAN <br />DONALD HODGES, COUNCILMAN DENNIS ZYLLA, CLERK ADMINISTRATOR <br />
