Of those <br />submitted, the City took the most cost effective system over a minimum useful life of 20 <br />years. <br />6) Are there any other cities who aze replacing all of their water meters? <br />The City of Mound has replaced all of their meters, the City of New Brighton replaced <br />half of its system one year ago, and the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul are in the <br />process of replacing their meters and have been doing so for the past three years. <br />7) How long have these types of meters been used in other cities? <br />These meters have been used in the City of Mounds View for the past seven or eight years <br />and they have basically been out in the market for the same number of years. <br />8 Has the ci checked on what is comin u in new meter technolo ? <br />t3' g P gY <br />Yes, this is the most current technology available. <br />9) Does the city know they are picking out the right system? <br />A person cannot be 100% sure, however city staff has checked with other cities in regard <br />to the vendor's reputation, the dollaz amount of what the product is worth and the <br />warranty and feels comfortable with the proposal. <br />10) Are the water meters in worse shape than the streets? <br />There aze a number of very old water meters in the city as there are a number of very old <br />streets in the city. The city continues to replace meters and continues to maintain the <br />streets to the best of their ability. <br />Mayor Linke explained that the three options before the City Council are as follows: <br />1) Change out of all the meters to a phone read system for a total cost of $830,000. This <br />project would be funded out of the Water Availability Charge with some of the money <br />coming out of the special project fund and an increase of $3. to the utility charge for <br />residential service. Some of the $3.00 would go into a water fund for future needs. <br />
