Proceedings of the Village Council <br />u 2 <br />Page 3 <br />Mr. Floyd Madsen appeared before the council to request a <br />building permit for building on a lot located on a half street at <br />the intersection of Sherwood Drive beyond the junction of Edgewood <br />Drive. Matter directed to the Attorney for investigation. <br />Mrs. Bak appeared before the council in regards to a subdivision <br />of her property. Mrs. Bak referred to the Clerk's office for formal <br />filing of her request. <br />Mr. Eikstadt, of the Police Commission, Chairman, appeared <br />before the council as suggested in regard to amendment of Police <br />Commission ordinance. After a lengthy discussion by citizens and <br />the council the ordinance and amendments thereto tabled for study <br />by the council. <br />Clerk Smith read a letter from Mr. William B. Randall concern- <br />ing the purchase of police vehicles after 50,000 miles of service <br />by a vehicle. Said letter suggested that all vehicles after reach- <br />ing 50,000 miles of service be put out of service and new vehicles <br />purchased. Action on letter from Mr. Randall tabled for dscussion <br />by the council. <br />After a discussion concerning the hiring of another policeman <br />to support the force during vacation periods and to strengthen the <br />department so that more hours could be covered under police protection, <br />Clerk Smith moved that Mr. Schaffhausen, a former village policeman, <br />be rehired for this job as approved by the Chief of Police in a <br />discussion with Clerk Smith previously. No second was made to the <br />motion and motion lost. Motion by Crane, seconded by Malvin, to <br />table the subject of rehiring another officer until study can be <br />made by police commission and council. 5 ayes, motion carried. <br />The subject of the liquor ordinance was brought to the council <br />and motion by Malvin, seconded by Hodges to adopt the liquor <br />ordinance as prepared by the attorney. During the discussion <br />concerning the ordinance Mayor Crane stated that he would like to <br />change the ordinance to read issuance of five off sale licenses <br />instead of the eight mentioned in the ordinance. Trustee Hodges <br />agreed to withdraw his second to the motion and Trustee Malvin <br />withdrew his original motion. Motion by Crane, seconded by Malvin <br />to change the liquor ordinance to read five off sale licenses instead <br />of eight as originally stated. Upon the call of roll Hodges, ?.°alvin, <br />Crane, aye; Christensen and Smith, no. Motion carried. Motion by <br />Malvin, seconded by Crane to adopt the liquor ordinance. Upon the <br />call of roll Malvin and Crane, aye; Christensen, Hodges, and Smith, . <br />no; motion lost. Motion by Christensen, seconded by Hodges to table <br />the liquor ordinance for further study and discussion by the council. <br />Malvin, Hodges, Christensen, Smith, aye; Crane, no; motion carried. <br />Clerk Smith brought to the attention of the council that <br />Precinct #3 in the election to be held on April 12 for the hospital <br />members at present had been setup so that three members from the <br />same party was scheduled to work. Smith stated that this was in <br />conflict with the state laws and that one person would have to be <br />taken from that schedule. Motion by Crane, seconded by Malvin that <br />
