000124 <br />—2 <br />Aug. 28th, 1961 Council meeting (con't) <br />and also to the member appointed at the previous meeting notifying <br />them of their appointment and of the time and place of the next <br />Planning meeting <br />Mr. Malvin made a report for the Public Welfare Department <br />regarding a complaint about a business in a residents garage. This <br />business apparently has been at this location for some time and is <br />now of such a size to constitute a possible public nuisance. <br />This matter was referred to the Building Inspector for investigation. <br />The minutes of the Police Commission meeting were read by Mayor <br />Crane (copy on file) and the following action taken. <br />Notion by Crane to raise the salaries of the Village Police Dept. <br />to the following monthly salaries effective Sept. 1, 1961. <br />Chief $200.00 Patrolman day $180.00 <br />Sgt. 180.00 " " nite 160.00 <br />It " relief115.00 <br />start 50.00 6 mos. <br />Clerk.typist 1.50 hr. <br />Seconded by Hodges. <br />Mayor Crane presented the Council with some information regarding <br />number of hours each officer is scheduled to work. <br />Mr. Dale Pierce, 8160 Eastwood Dr., asked for permission to speak <br />and received it. He stated that he didn't feel this raise was a fair <br />and equitable one with regards to actual hours worked, and asked that <br />furtherstudy be given this before any action is taken. Mayor Crane <br />pointed out that this had been under study and advisement for several <br />months and felt that this was the proper time for action. <br />Upon call of the roll the following vote was taken: 4 aye, <br />Christensen abstaining. When asked for the reason for abstaining <br />Mr. Christensen stated that he does not feel there is enough data to <br />really justify a vote at this time and also that he feels a strictly <br />hourly wage would be a fairer solution to the problems in the pay <br />schedule of the Police Dept. <br />Mr. Christensen reported for the Public Works Dept. He stated <br />that the gas lines was being put in the Village and that N.S.P. was <br />committed to return disturbed streets, blvds., etc. to tlieir orginal. <br />state. <br />He also reported that the County and private (contracted) road <br />repair work was progressing very well. <br />The matter of Woodcrest drainage was referred back to the agenda <br />meeting Sept. 5th, 1961. <br />Motion by Hodges to send work order to the County Engineer to <br />perform necessary work per specifications of the Engineers on Village <br />skating rinks. Seconded by Malvin. 5 Ayes. <br />
