- 5 - <br />Mr. Copeland stated that this was good planning, health and welfare and that <br />he had not heard any arguement against the proposal which stated that either <br />the health or welfare of the community would be impaired by this proposal. He <br />said he was willing to make a compromise. He requested a continuation of two <br />weeks. Residents would like a decision tonight. <br />Another resident asked Mr. Copeland where he lives and if there were any <br />apartments near him. Mr. Copeland said no, there are no apartments near <br />him. <br />John Robertus would like a vote. Mayor Rustad ruled him out of order. <br />Mrs. Walter Kastner, 5066 Longview Drive, stated that there was a school <br />bus problem. That since all children in a nine block area would have to <br />walk to school the high traffic flow may cause problems in the safety of <br />children. <br />Mr. Chervany asked the Council to take a look at the whole village. Mr. <br />Hjelle stated that a new plan was needed. Henry Dyslin, Brighton Lane, <br />stated he had bought his property knowing it was Rl. He is against the <br />proposal. Mr. Carlson, 5059 Greenwood Drive, is also against the proposal. <br />Parcel #2 - #59- 0080 - 140 -50 <br />Mr. Charles Larson, developer, then proceeded to present a proposal for the <br />area East of Long Lake Road and West of Irondale. Lorraine Merker, Irondale <br />Road, was against the proposal. Henry Dyslin stated the land was low. <br />Curtis Johnson desired information on how many buildings. Developer said <br />as many as the ordinance permits. Johnson said he was opposed, not enough <br />information. Ada Lawrence, 5260 Long Lake Road, was against the proposal. <br />John Robertus also against this proposal. <br />Milt Stole then proceeded to explain our zoning ordinance and lot requirements. <br />He again stated that anyone has a right to petition and be heard. Mr. Kobe <br />requested information on who recommended the hearing. Mayor Rustad stated <br />it was recommended by the Planning Commission. Mayor Rustad called for a <br />vote on the rezoning. <br />Robert Eigenheer was for the rezoning. He stated that as developers it <br />was their duty to promote land and if it wasn't for developers none of the <br />people would be out here today. <br />Paul Pasch of Rainbow Lane requested information on why you can't build a <br />home on peat. Milt Stole explained. <br />Mayor Rustad stated that in his estimation the hearing was a success and that <br />he felt there was a fine group of individuals present. He then closed the <br />hearing and asked for comments from the Council. <br />Councilman Hodges stated that we have had a lot of midnight meetings setting <br />up ordinances and at this time he would recommend denial. Councilman Blanchard <br />stated he was all for the proposal but he seconded the motion to deny. <br />Councilman Johnson stated that all the land there was not suitable for single <br />family residences. He would like to see something other than apartments or <br />in addition to apartments constructed in that area unsuitable for single <br />family residences. Density would increase and in his estimation this is <br />the problem as the residents see it at the present time. <br />
